Humans are not just comprised of a physical body. We are physical, mental, emotional and spiritual beings.

Overall, Shannon's approach to the body honours the various elements that may be contributing to one's condition (pain, tension, restriction, lack of mobility, etc.).

Each body is unique and will be treated as such - meaning your session will always be customized to you as an individual.

Specifically, Shannon’s approach to the practice of massage includes:

  • Myofascial Release - gentle or moderate sustained pressure into fascial layers, focusing on the release of connective tissue

  • Thai-MASHiatsu or "Mashing" - a clothed treatment performed on the floor using alternating compression and release of tissue

  • Trigger Point therapy - sustained pressure into a hyperirritable spot within a muscle that is referring pain to another area of the body

  • Deep Tissue therapy - heavy pressure applied with the intention of releasing adhesions or "knots" in layers of muscles and tendons and/or restoring muscle length

  • Relaxation or "general Swedish massage" - long, gliding, rhythmical strokes aimed at relaxing the nervous system and increasing circulation

  • Joint mobilizations - stretching of the joint capsule to restore proper mobility within a specific joint motion or direction

  • Joint release - passive movement of a joint in a rocking fashion to promote "letting go"

  • Deep Flow massage - this alignment-based approach draws from manual therapy, breath work, mindfulness and movement principles to promote holistic balance

  • Shiatsu - meaning "finger pressure" in Japanese, this technique is traditionally applied using thumbs, palms or elbows to affect energy pathways within the body, but is adapted in treatment with Shannon to introduce pressure to the body and promote initial relaxation

  • Stretching

  • Postural awareness

  • Breathing coaching

A period of questioning or “intake” as well as assessment will take place prior to your treatment to ensure your massage is tailored to your needs and makes the best use of time.

You will be given self-care recommendations to incorporate in your daily life to assist you in achieving your wellness goals.
